Apple slowing down your old iPhone?!?

Have you ever noticed that your old iPhone just seems to be getting slower and slower? OK, So the truth is Apple do purposely slow your phone down as your battery starts to age, but before you run off and send your most I told you so Twitter post yet here's why, Batteries are consumable components much like tyres on your car they don't last forever and as they start to age they are no longer able to deliver the same amount of power as they once did so Apple‘s software will slow your phone down to keep you running smoothly, if they didn’t do this you will find your battery life would be even worse, your phone may randomly shut down or worse yet your phone may start to get extremely hot and potentially will end up in what’s called thermal runaway, this is where the lithium-ion battery will expand and start to give off toxic fumes not good! and if this happens you will most certainly miss out on your daily dose of cat memes.

So what can I do? How do I know if this is happing to me? how can I prevent this happing to me?
